Files and settings on your device

The app stores collection addresses, file indexes, hashes, cached content, sharing settings, peer information and diagnostic logs on your computer. The local engine creates authentication material for communication with its desktop, command-line and MCP clients. The bundled IPFS node stores a peer identity and content blocks. Do not share your engine endpoint record or IPFS configuration file.

Internet and peer-to-peer requests

When you add or read a collection, the app contacts its source and may contact IPFS peers, public routing services and gateways. Those services receive your network address and requested URLs or content identifiers. Optional research features send your queries to their sources, such as Wikipedia. Each external service operates under its own privacy practices.

IPFS is public, not an anonymous or private storage service. Other peers may obtain content held by the bundled node, including shared files and cached blocks. Sharing publishes content identifiers and availability information. Do not share private files. Turning sharing off or removing local content cannot retract copies or records already held by other people.

Connected applications

Emulators and other local applications can read files through the mounted drive. Applications you connect through the local MCP interface may access collection metadata and content. If you connect an external AI client, that client's handling of data is governed by its own settings and policy.

Downloads, updates and support

Our download and support website uses Cloudflare hosting. Requests, including network addresses, request paths and technical error information, may be processed in hosting and security logs. The website does not set advertising cookies. Microsoft processes Store installations, updates and related diagnostics under its own policies. If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to send and use it to respond and investigate your request.

Control and deletion

You can remove collections, stop sharing and clear eligible cached content in the app or its command-line tools. Kept files and the IPFS node's storage are separate from the engine's range cache. Quit the app before removing all local app data. On Windows, disconnect the Cloud Files provider first, as described on the support page. Uninstalling the Windows Store package preserves shared app data. Back up files you need before deleting anything.

Local app data is stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Interplanetary on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/Interplanetary on Mac, and ${XDG_DATA_HOME:-~/.local/share}/interplanetary on Linux. Requests concerning information you sent to support can be made through the support contact. We cannot delete information held independently by public peers or other services.
